New video for Irish Singer Songwriter, Col Patterson

Col wrote to me asking to have a video created for his new single, Angels on the Wave. Since it is an emotive song about the plight of European immigrants I decided it needed a soft, human approach.

Without giving away the entire plot, the idea of the video was to have a figure walking along the beach as it becomes evident that a situation is getting worse and worse.

Rather than having a defined, hard-edged character, I drew it with a watercolour style and created the background and other imagery to match. It had to be a figure that everyone could relate to. It had to be me, you, the neighbour, the Queen – everyone, all at once.

The scene is a beach, but it had to be a gloomy beach. Slowly the smoke would come into the scene, the state of affairs worsening until, finally, it becomes too much and what has happened engulfs the protagonist and eventually the view.

Here are some shots of individual elements to give you an idea of how it was done, and the video itself. Enjoy! And please, leave comments here, on YouTube and follow Col on Twitter (@colpmusic), visit his website and tell him what you thought of it. He would love to hear from you.
